recently one of valley modern design’s incredibly fabulous clients revealed that she seems to have a ultra attraction, or fetish if you will, to interior accessories and furnishings that resemeble body parts. She thought there may be some deeper, creepy meaning behind this, but i think its a fabulous concept! what an interesting theme, a sprinkle of humanesque sexy modern things around your space. if you are interested, here are some cool things i found:

I have had my eye on this amazing Design Within Reach chandelier for some time. It fits right into my obsession with all things clear and when juxtaposed to a sleek modern table it is mind blowing hot. My problem is the price tag, and while it is worth EVERY penny DWR is asking for, especially because it is handmade on the island of Murano and no two are exactly the same, $3k is too much to spend on a light fixture for someone like me who is constantly resdesigning her space!

Recently, the Design Diva, Retro Raven and myself, the Modern Maven had the divine pleasure of seeing the one, the only Mr. Las Vegas himself, the multi-cultural, multi-talented Wayne Newton perform in concert. With show-stopping tap dance numbers, a lovely orchestra and the musical bravado of Mr. Newton intermingled with old-fashioned, call-it-as-you-see-it humor and a touching tribute to our brave soldiers overseas and at home, I was swept away with the magic of Old Las Vegas, the type you hear about in songs and see in great old 50’s and 60’s era movies. I mean, how can I not be taken with a man who, in his seventies, still gets cheers from the ladies when he shakes his impressively in-shape rhinestone-clad ass?

After a recent conversation where the subject of large versus small square footage was brought up, I began to contemplate. While our cell phones, laptops, and even vehicles get smaller, it seems that new home builders in the valley are still having a hard time following suit. While the “urban lifestyle” craze has got things stirred up in the condo and loft market, freestanding dwellings are ever expanding, reaching new limits of interior volume as the exterior walls stretch dangerously close to property lines.
